How to make masala (kaara) paruppu?

Ingredients:
Kadalai paruppu/Gram dhal - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon (or as required)
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Salt - as per taste
Curry leaves - few
Oil - for frying
Garlic - 2 or 3 cloves (optional)
Cashews - few as per liking

This is one of the easiest yet tastiest snack ever. I know I keep saying that for every post. But it is :) Try making this one and you will agree with what I say.

Soak kadalai paruppu overnight or at least 4 to 5 hours. Once its soaked, drain the water completely and spread it over a kitchen towel and dry them a little bit. Do not dry them completely.

Warm up the oil in a frying pan. You may crush the garlic if you plan to use them. In the mean time mix the red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt together and keep it aside. Once the oil is ready for frying gently fry the paruppu along with crushed garlic, cashews and curry leaves. Wait till the bubbles subside which means, its done.

Spread the fried paruppu over kitchen towel to drain excess oil. Put the fried paruppu in a small container and add in the red chili powder mixture. Close the container and shake, shake, shake..

Vola, your tasty masala paruppu is ready for munching.
