Ingredients:
Raw rice - 4 cups
Ulundu/Urad dhal - 1 cup
Palm jaggery - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Salt - a pinch
Sesame oil - 3 tablespoon
Mix raw rice along with urad dhal and grind it to fine powder. My mom grinds it advance and keeps in a air tight container for future use. I prefer to do so.
In a heavy bottom pan add palm jaggery and water. Put this on a medium/low flame and ensure that the palm sugar is dissolved completely. Now strain it in and pour it back in the heavy bottom pan. Put it back on medium flame and bring it to boil. Once it boils, reduce the flame to low and add 2 cups of the ground flour in it. Use a wooden spatula and stir it well, so that there are no lumps and the flour is evenly coated with jaggery syrup.
Stir it well till the flour is cooked, it might take 7-8 minutes. Take it off the heat once it come to chapathi dough consistency. Add sesame oil while the dough is still warm.
You may make small balls of this dough and eat it along with a coat of sesame oil. This kazhi tastes good only with sesame oil.
This is a tasty yet healthy breakfast.
