How to make pachai payir/whole green gram sundal?

Ingredients:
Pachai payir/whole moong dhal - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Salt - as per taste
Oil - 1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Ulundu/Urad dhaal - 1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves - few
Red chilies - 2 or 3
Coconut - 1/4 cup grated

This is one of the easiest, tastiest yet healthiest snack that you can make. My husband enjoys this after a good workout. I love it with a hot cup of coffee in the evening.

Wash and soak 1 cup of pachai payir over night or for about 3 hours. Since I prepare this in the morning, I soak it overnight so that it is easy to be cooked the next morning and there is no wait time.

In a kadai, warm up 1 tablespoon of oil and add mustard seeds. Once it spatters, add in the curry leaves, red chilies and ulundu. Saute it for a minute till ulundu changes color and red chilies puff up. Add in the soaked pachai payir and saute it for a minute. Pour in 2 cups of water and cook the payir under closed lid. Cook at medium/low flame for about 7-8 minutes or till all the water is used up.

Turn off the flame once all the water is evaporated and the payir is cooked well. Finally add in the grated coconut and mix well with the payir. Your healthy snack is ready to devour.
