I love love love prawns so much that my mom cooks this whenever I visit her. Since husband is allergic to prawns, I tend not to make prawns cos I will be making it only for me.
Clean and de-vein the prawns. Keep it aside.
In a pan, warm up the oil. Once its warm enough add in the mustard seeds and wait till it sputter. Later add in the curry leaves along with the chopped onions. Saute this for at least 3-4 mins till the onions turn transparent. Add in the ginger garlic paste and saute it for few more mins till the raw smell goes off. Now add in the chopped tomatoes. Saute this well till the tomatoes turn mushy.
Add in the chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Mix well so that all the powders are incorporated into the tomatoes well. Add half cup of water and bring this a boil. Once it starts to boil, reduce the flame to medium and add in the prawns. Cook this for approximately 5 mins covered.
After five mins, stir the prawn mixture till all the water vaporizes and we are left with almost dry prawn curry. If you wish, you may garnish with chopped coriander.
This tastes fantastic with white rice or you may try with rotis.
