Ingredients:
Keerai/Greens - 1 big bunch
Tamarind - a small piece (optional)
Green chilies - 4
Garlic - 3 pods
Onion - 1 medium sized
Tomato - 1 medium sized
Mustard - 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves - few
Oil - for tempering
Water - 1 cup
Salt - as per taste
I used pressure cooker to make keerai masiyal. I learnt this recipe recently from my mom and I loved it. It is an easy dish and can be cooked quickly.
Wash and chop the keerai. Dice onion and tomato into cubes and slit the green chilies. If you are not a tamarind person, you may add a tomato instead.
Add keerai, tamarind, garlic, diced onions, tomatoes, green chilies and salt along with 1 cup of water in the pressure cooker. Take it off the heat after 2 or 3 whistles and let the pressure come down by itself. Slightly mash the keerai and set it aside.
Now in a small pan prepare the tempering by warming up the oil, add in the mustard seeds and curry leaves. Pour this tempering over the keerai masiyal and its ready to be served with white rice.
